100 kilo watt solar air-conditioning system launched at Gurgaon

World most efficient solar cooling system launched in Gurgaon
Gurgaon, Jul 1 : India today achieved a major breakthrough in solar thermal cooling system technology by launching a 100 kilo watt solar air-conditioning system at the Solar Energy Centre in Gurgaon adjoining the national capital.

Described as the world's most efficient solar thermal cooling system, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said it is 30 per cent more efficient than the currently available systems.

Based on the new triple effect absorption cooling technology, the indigenously built system will meet air-conditioning needs of 13 rooms of Solar Energy Centre which developed it in collaboration with Pune-based Thermax Ltd.

The Ministry said 288 square metres of solar collector used in the system generates nearly 60 KW of 210 degree celsius pressurised hot water.

The heat is used in a vapour absorption machine to generate 7 degree chilled water which when circulated through fan coil units installed in the 13 rooms cool them.

Hotter the day, more the solar energy and more the need for cooling and the system meets the demand, said New and Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah who inaugurated it in the presence of Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde. They said it will help meet the growing demand for air-conditioning in India in a highly efficient and cost effective way through use of direct solar energy.
